Helping planning and environmental officers consider wellbeing, health, nature and sustainability issues when deciding on planning issues is part of Natural England’s role. The impact these aspects have on mental health are well known and therefore making the data easily accessible to support planning decisions is essential.

Using sophisticated modelling and statistical approaches we developed an easy-to-use graphical interface enabling local planning officers to retrieve wellbeing, health, nature and sustainability impacts at a local government level. Key to this work was aggregating disparate data sets into a single data lake. Powerful search enables the officers to immediately find, chart and present detailed data to an uninformed audience. Deeper drilling provides greater detail to more informed audiences.
